The 2017 California legislative session is a wrap, and thanks to supporters like you, we have new laws addressing many of the critical issues we face in California. Because so many of you took action, we’re celebrating major legislative victories:

Hundreds of delegates representing local Leagues of Women Voters throughout the state will gather for their biennial convention, themed “A Capitol Connection,” on June 1-4 at the Sheraton Grand Hotel in Sacramento. California Secretary of State Alex Padilla, Stockton Mayor Michael Tubbs, and California Budget and Policy Center Executive Director Chris Hoene are a few of the speakers who will address attendees. We advocated tirelessly at the Capitol to empower voters and defend democracy in California.

It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of Trudy Schafer, our beloved Senior Director for Program, lobbyist, and friend. For the past 25 years, Trudy made a lasting and transformative impact on California public policy and on the lives of all those she worked with. She was an extraordinary woman, and she leaves behind a remarkable legacy. Our heartfelt condolences to her husband John, her children Anne and Bob, and the entire Schafer family.

Last week marked the halfway point in the legislature for the year, and our two highest priority bills have successfully made it to the State Senate.
