The League positions supports air quality standards to protect public health and welfare. While not a current action priority, when we have members willing to follow the issue, we can make our voice heard on the issue.

Heat records are being broken, glaciers are melting, and the seas are rising. We have reached a point where no matter what we do, we cannot avoid a very different climate future. We must act now to prevent truly catastrophic consequences. But what can we do? The most powerful action is our knowledgeable vote.

Preserve the physical, chemical and biological integrity of the ecosystem, with maximum protection of public health and the environment.

An integrated overall state planning effort should provide for the management of growth (LWVC--Land Use #2). To accomplish this requires clear assignment of responsibility, adequate financing, competent personnel, and coordination among the different agencies and levels of government (LWV--Principles). Provision should be made for the efficient, effective and equitable balance of responsibility and authority among the levels of government with accountability to the public (LWVC--Intergovernmental Relationships-In Brief).

The LWVC supports land use planning that recognizes land as a resource as well as a commodity. While not a current priority for action, when we have members who monitor the issue, the League voice can be heard.

Promote public understanding and participation in decision making as essential elements of responsible and responsive management of our natural resources.

The League supports measures to ensure environmentally sound and efficient solid waste management, to reduce solid wastes, to encourage resource recovery, and to increase the demand for secondary materials. While not a current action priority, when we have members who monitor the issue, the League voice can be heard.
