The League supports preserving agricultural land as a limited resource. The Food, Soils, and Agriculture team within the Climate Interest Group is working to change agriculture from a greenhouse gas emitter to a carbon sink.

The League positions supports air quality standards to protect public health and welfare. While not a current action priority, when we have members willing to follow the issue, we can make our voice heard on the issue.

To promote a better understanding of California’s water issues and complexities, we offer background on California’s water resources, the demands on these resources, and the state’s current approach to water management.

Heat records are being broken, glaciers are melting, and the seas are rising. We have reached a point where no matter what we do, we cannot avoid a very different climate future. We must act now to prevent truly catastrophic consequences. But what can we do? The most powerful action is our knowledgeable vote.

The League supports a state energy policy that ensures reliable energy resources and protection of the environment and public health and safety at reasonable customer rates. While this is not a priority for action, when we have members who are willing to monitor the issue, the League voice can be heard.

Preserve the physical, chemical and biological integrity of the ecosystem, with maximum protection of public health and the environment.

The League of Women Voters of California advocates about fracking (hydraulic fracturing) based on the public's right to know about hazardous materials potentially polluting drinking water.

An integrated overall state planning effort should provide for the management of growth (LWVC--Land Use #2). To accomplish this requires clear assignment of responsibility, adequate financing, competent personnel, and coordination among the different agencies and levels of government (LWV--Principles). Provision should be made for the efficient, effective and equitable balance of responsibility and authority among the levels of government with accountability to the public (LWVC--Intergovernmental Relationships-In Brief).

The LWVC supports comprehensive measures to provide maximum protection to human health and the environment from the adverse effects of hazardous materials. While not a priority for action, when we have members willing to monitor the issue, the League voice can be heard.

The LWVC supports land use planning that recognizes land as a resource as well as a commodity. While not a current priority for action, when we have members who monitor the issue, the League voice can be heard.

Promote the management of natural resources as interrelated parts of life-supporting ecosystems.

Promote public understanding and participation in decision making as essential elements of responsible and responsive management of our natural resources.

Promote resource conservation, stewardship and long range planning, with the responsibility for managing natural resources shared by all levels of government.

Sustainable communities recognize their interdependence with the global community and seek to meet current economic, environmental, and social demands through equitable and democratic means without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs

The LWVC supports a transportation system with an emphasis on public transportation and other alternatives to reduce vehicle miles traveled. While not a current priority for action, when we have members who follow the issue, the League voice can be heard.
