Welcome to Facia Boyenoh Harris, our new IREX Community Solutions Program Leader from Liberia!
Facia Harris has nine years of experience working as a journalist reporting on human rights issues, particularly those concerning women and girls. Most recently, she worked with the United Nations Mission in Liberia Radio Station. Facia also has over ten years practical experience working as a volunteer on gender issues with the Paramount Young Women Initiative (PAYOWI), As a Community Solutions Program Fellow, Facia seeks to acquire additional knowledge and skills on gender programming, especially for women and girls, which will bring about practical changes.
She is passionate about volunteerism with over twelve years of active volunteer experience. Her inspiration - the women and girls she works with who embrace many challenges in order to succeed. Facia is also the mother to a young daaghter who brightens each day with their morning conversations.

What will Facia be working on at the League?
During her fellowship program Facia will be working with the League of Women Voters of California (LWVC) to broaden her experience in nonprofit operations and management. She hopes to learn new and sustainable advocacy strategies, networking skills, and nonprofit management to strengthen her community organizing work with young women. She will also be learning about nonprofit fundraising, networking, communications, and membership approaches in hopes of adapting applicable methodologies to strengthen her work at home in Liberia.
Some of her work with the League will also involve developing and implementing an evaluation protocol for the Best Practices Manual for Official Voter Information Guides and assisting local Leagues to measure membership and leadership needs.

More About Facia's Background
Currently, Facia is the Assistant Director for Validation at the Independent Information Commission in Liberia, the institution that implements the Country’s Freedom of Information Law. Participating in the 2015 Community Solutions program, is a significant step towards fulfilling her dream to actively participate in initiatives directed at helping to close Liberia’s gender gap.
Facia holds a MPA in Public Sector Management from the Cuttington Graduate School and a BA in Sociology from the African Methodist Episcopal University in Liberia.
