Taking a Look at the Courts:  Join the Discussion With the President constantly testing the limits of executive power and the ability of judges to stop him, plus threats to impeach judges, the need for clarity on the proper role of the federal courts and the principles that should guide them are painfully obvious. Federal Judicial Study:  Discussion and Consensus Meeting, Tuesday, April 1, 6pm This Zoom meeting is part of the U.S. League’s Study of the Federal Judiciary. Our unit will discuss and reach consensus on issues relating to the federal courts, particularly the Supreme Court. We will discuss principles of judicial independence, transparency, accountability, and ethics, as well as issues such as recusal for bias, financial disclosure, and the use of the ‘shadow docket.’  Our goal is to reach consensus on support for, or opposition to, 12 statements provided by the LWVUS Study Committee. After considering the responses from all the participating local leagues, the Study Committee will present a proposed position on the judicial branch of government to the LWVUS Board in June. This will enable the League to study and advocate on specific questions and proposals for reform of the judicial branch of government. The meeting is open to the public.
