Forty-two years ago Congress voted in favor of the 26th Amendment to lower the voting age to 18. The Fair Elections Legal Network marks this anniversary with the release of their report, College Students and Voting: A Campus Vote College Perspective. This report focuses on the ways "election law changes affected student voters in 2012 and strategies for overcoming barriers moving forward." Some of the barriers faced by college students are:
- Moving to new counties or states, they often lack basic information about the voting process.
- Not having suitable IDs to show at polls in states where an ID is required.
- Voter suppression efforts lead students to believe that voting in their college community may have unforseen consequences.
- Lack of transportation to their voting precincts.
