The Commission is taking testimony from area residents in regions throughout California before drawing the first round of draft maps which will be released in June. Final district maps must be certified by the Commission by August 15th.

The Citizens Redistricting Commission has released a schedule of 34 public input hearings and tentative business meeting through June 2011. Beginning on April 9, 2011, in Redding California , the commission held the first public input hearing.

The commission has provided an FAQ and Worksheet to help the public prepare testimony for the commission.

The new redistricting process directs the Citizens Redistricting Commission to create opportunities the public to testify in the drawing of political boundaries, for state Congressional, state Senate, Assembly and Board of Equalization districts. Public participation will ensure that communiites can express their preferences and define their communities of interest and neighborhoods. When voters with similar interests are drawn into a district together, their voices have a greater opportunity to express their views and elect candidates of their choice and hold their elected officials accountable.

If you would like to attend a meeting in your area, check the schedule of regional meetings on the commission website at www.wedrawthelines.ca.gov. People wishing to make a statement will be given 3-5 minutes to speak (depending on the number of speakers).
