36 Applicants Remain After Legislative Leaders Strike 8

On November 12, 2010, the Secretary of State and the Chief Clerk of the California State Assembly jointly submitted the names of the remaining applicants—12 Democrats, 12 Republicans, and 12 not affiliated with either of those two parties—for the Commission after the legislative leaders each exercised strikes of applicants. The Applicant Review Panel submitted a list of 60 applicants for the Citizens Redistricting Commission to the four Legislative leaders for review. The Legislative leadership were each allowed to strike up to 2 names from each of the three groups of 20, Republicans, Democrats or Others not belonging to either party.
