As part of the Public Advocacy for Voter Protection project (PAVP), Leagues across the country are working to ensure that public assistance agencies in their respective states meet the National Voter Registration Act (NVRA) requirement that all individuals seeking assistance at the agencies be offered the opportunity to register to vote. A recent article by Demos, “Increasing Access in Hard Times: Women and the National Voter Registration Act,” provides supporting evidence that this type of work is needed. It notes that “as more women turn to public assistance, the potential for empowering them to participate in the political process is great.” Local League members and the public are encouraged to participate in this work.
